Harry A. Johnston II (born December 2, 1931) is a former member of the United States House of Representatives from Florida. He is a member of the Democratic Party.
Johnston was born in West Palm Beach, Florida. He attended the rigorous[citation needed] Virginia Military Institute, and he became a lieutenant in the United States Army after graduating. Once he was discharged, he entered the University of Florida and earned his law degree.
In 1974, Johnson was elected to the Florida Senate. With the Democrats regaining control of the body in the 1980s, Johnson rose to the the rank of President of the Senate. In 1986, he sought the Democratic nomination for Governor of Florida, but lost in a close primary race.
Johnson was elected to Congress in 1988. He served four terms in the House before his somewhat surprising[citation needed] retirement in 1997.
