Biography
German leading actor Harry Piel managed to weather two World Wars, remaining active in films from 1913 to 1950. Piel turned director in 1924, turning out such box-office successes as Mann Gegen Mann (1928) and Artisten (1935). His last directorial effort was 1953's Gesprengte Gitten (aka Panic), which he also produced, wrote, and starred in. Harry Piel was married to actress Dary Holm. ~ Hal Erickson, Rovi
