1. Carthaginian general and son-in-law of Hamilcar Barca, upon whose death in 229 BC he became the commander in Spain. He extended the Carthaginian empire in Spain to the boundary of the river Ebro, but in 221 was murdered by a Celtic slave, and was succeeded in the command by Hannibal.

2. Son of Hamilcar Barca and brother of Hannibal, left in command of the Carthaginians in Spain when Hannibal invaded Italy in 218 BC (Second Punic War). From 218 to 208 he fought in Spain against the Roman generals Publius Cornelius Scipio and his son Scipio Africanus. Having evaded the Roman army he then marched to Italy to the relief of Hannibal (207), but he was intercepted in the valley of the river Metaurus, defeated, and killed, in a significant victory for the Romans.
