Head of a family of exiles who returned from the Exile in Babylon with Zerubbabel (Ezra 2:1-2, 19) and numbered 223 persons according to Ezra (Ezra 2:19) and 328 according to Nehemiah (Neh 7:22). Hashum was among the leaders who sealed the covenant (Ezra 10:33; Neh 10:18); and he stood by Ezra when the Law was read to the congregation (Neh 8:4).
