Review

Trends may come and go, but you can always count on KMFDM to unleash a new album's worth of hate-heavy industrial tunes every few years. Twenty-one years after their initial formation, the German group still has no problem unleashing the venom against electro beats, as evidenced by 2005's Hau Ruck. With tracks that can be compared to such renowned industrial names as Nine Inch Nails, Ministry, and Rammstein, it's understandable for the uninitiated to assume that KMFDM is just following in the footsteps of others. But the truth is that they've been around longer than those aforementioned acts (or in Ministry's case, just as long). KMFDM continue to supply the perfect soundtrack for a futuristic action-adventure movie, as evidenced by such tracks as "Free Your Hate," "New American Century," and "Mini Mini Mini." Hau Ruck is further proof that KMFDM is the industrial AC/DC -- they continue to crank out album after album, while not giving a thought as to what's pumping out of radio or MTV at the moment. ~ Greg Prato, All Music Guide

Hau Ruck is the fourteenth album by KMFDM, released by Metropolis Records on September 13, 2005. It was recorded in Seattle, Washington.

The album had originally been titled FUBAR, in reference to the military acronym standing for "Fucked Up Beyond All Recognition/Repair". However, in June 2005 the band announced they were abandoning that title, and on July 21, 2005, they announced the new title would be Hau Ruck, the German equivalent of "heave-ho". Hau Ruck is the first KMFDM album without a five-letter word title since 1988's Don't Blow Your Top. Likewise, none of the song titles are five-letter words.

According to Sascha Konietzko, Hau Ruck was created entirely using analog equipment.

Of some note is that the album features songs with significant portions in three different languages — the first KMFDM album to do so (not including Adios, which featured the phrase "goodbye" in seven different languages on the title track). The band's cover of the French-language "Mini Mini Mini" by Jacques Dutronc is the first KMFDM song to be performed entirely in a language other than the usual English or German.

This album was remixed in the remix EP Ruck Zuck by themselves.
