Biography
Their style a synthesis of industrial electronics and dance music, Haujobb formed in Germany in 1993 around the trio of Dejan Samardzic, Daniel Meier with B. Junemann. After the release of a cassette-only album named Drift Wheeler, Haujobb signed to Off Beat Records and in 1993 released a proper debut, Homes and Gardens. The trio toured Germany and issued the album in the States, but said farewell to Junemann in 1995, just after the release of Freeze Frame Reality. A split release with :wumpscut: titled The Remix Wars, Strike 1 appeared one year later, and Haujobb also contributed remixes to Front Line Assembly and Download; cEvin Key returned the favor on the Frames remix EP. Their third album, Solutions from a Small Planet, appeared in 1996, followed by the two-disc Matrix, which included remixes as well as individual samples so bedroom boffins could remake tracks from Solutions for a Small Planet themselves. Haujobb returned two years later with Ninetynine; an accompanying remix collection followed in 1999. ~ John Bush, All Music Guide
Haujobb is a German musical project whose output has ranged drastically within the electronic music spectrum, from electro-industrial to IDM and techno. They have become a staple crossover act, bringing several forms of electro into the mainstream industrial music world.
Haujobb was formed in 1993 by Daniel Myer, Dejan Samardzic, and Björn Junemann, pulling the name from the Blade Runner translation of "skin job". They were soon signed to Off Beat, and began distributing their music in North America via Pendragon Records. 1995 saw the departure of band mate Björn, and the lineup has consisted of Daniel and Dejan ever since. After Metropolis Records acquired Pendragon, the two musicians have been able to spread their music to a larger fanbase in North America, and have remained continuously popular in the European industrial music scene.
Over course of their subsequent releases in the 1990s, they wove increasing amounts of drum'n'bass and IDM influence into their sound. 1999's 'NinetyNine' was a sparse, downtempo collection of ambient electronic compositions. They have since reintroduced some of the more rhythmic elements back into their sound on their more recent albums, but have continued to experiment, drawing concepts from a wide variety of musical styles.
According to the official website, Haujobb are currently working on a new album with the working title "New World March" which will involve the use of more hardware, guitars, drums, and sound recordings compared to software based Vertical Theory of 2003. No release date has been announced however previews of the album in the form of loops and snippets are available for free download on the band's official site.
Projects
Today, both Daniel Myer and Dejan Samardzic continue to record music under the name Haujobb - the duo also briefly recorded as 'Dots+Dashes'. Myer has several other projects of his own, including Architect, Clear Vision (initially a collaboration with Thorsten Meier) as well as a number of other short-lived electronic projects. Myer, along with Claire Voyant's Victoria Lloyd, form HMB, whilst Newt is a collaboration with Andreas Meyer of Forma Tadre. The most recent of Myer's side-projects is 'Destroid', also featuring Rinaldo Ribi Bite and Sebastian Ullmann.
The name Haujobb originates from the film Blade Runner. In the film, skin-job is a slang term for replicants. In the German version of the film, this was translated to haut-job.[1]
