On a remote planet, there lives a young, athletic slave named Haven, who dreams of a better life free from the bonds of slavery. In the game Haven has a recurring dream of an ancient bell known as the "Golden Voice" that has a ring so powerful it wakes him from his slumber. During the day, when he isn't slaving away in the mines, Haven makes his way through a number of environments. Most characters are from Ferra.
Talon is Haven's greatest and only working creation. He's a bit bumbling in the beginning, but is a very fast learner. While Talon can only communicate in beeps and squawks, it is quite easy to understand him. Talon at times feels like Haven does not appreciate him enough, and can be quite full of himself. While he may be self-centered, Talon can always be relied on in a crunch. Whenever he is needed, after Haven collects 5 feathers, you can ring the obelisk in the level, and Talon will come and help Haven out.
Chess is Haven's best friend. Like Haven she longs to one day be free from Vetch's grasp. She always seems to be getting herself into trouble. She likes Haven, but gets a little frustrated with some of his stupid ideas. Over time, however, she usually finds that he is right. Chess is the only person Haven can really trust.
Dr. Spong is the strange and quirky doctor of Haven's home village. He stutters a lot, and likes to slap people in the head, then tell them to stay in bed, saying, "I-I know for a fact th-tha-that your head is still sore..." He also has a lot of superstitious habits, like ringing an ancient healing gong in his patient's ear. His voice can be quite annoying, and he doesn't seem to be offended at Haven's rude remarks, such as "...Old Quackbrain."
The Wise Man lives on the Isle of Heroes, along with all the other wise men. He is quite bored of the old routine of welcoming the warriors that have faced all the challenges and congratulating them by saying "Well done, Great Warrior. You have fought many battles and faced many challenges..." in a monotone, lazy voice. The Wise Man is the one that helps Haven by telling him the entire history of the Golden Voice, and the story of the original Auria, and brutality of Vetch.
The Overlord is one of Vetch's more senior henchmen. He has earned more responsibility, but in doing so, he has also let some of his newfound power go to his head. He has even come to think he is as powerful as Vetch himself. The Overlord is good at following orders and protocol, but is not very intelligent and is unable to function without Vetch's leadership.
Lord Vetch is an evil blight in the universe. Along with his army of minions, he travels from planet to planet enslaving the inhabitants, while stripping the planets of all natural resources. He's like the virus that he uses against the inhabitants, fast spreading and always deadly. He must be careful though, because every virus has a cure. His one fear is that the legend of the Golden Voice will come true and Athellion will return to Auria and defeat him. Vetch has done everything he can to rid himself of this legend so he can rule unchallenged.
Athellion is the true King of Auria. 1,000 years ago he departed his golden city to fight alongside his father in a great galactic crusade. Now his return is the only chance Haven and his people have to free themselves from Vetch's tyranny.
The intro movie shows Lord Vetch for the first time when he gets a call from the Overlord. The Overlord tells Vetch that there is a boy who knows about the Golden Voice. The Overlord asks if he should be executed, but Vetch thinks Haven should be watched closely instead. At the end of this call, the game shows Haven in his house building a robot bird. When it fails to work, he pounds it and it comes to life, creating Talon. He exits his house, but his boss is outside. Apparently, Haven had accidentally hurt his boss's foot with his pickaxe, thinking it was a rock then claiming anybody could have made that mistake. When Talon trips the boss causing him to fall into a bucket of feathers, Haven runs into a cave where a guard is asking Chess questions. The guard tries to shoot Haven, but misses causing the cave to collapse.
This is the first time the player gets to play Haven. The player must get Haven to escape the mine without being crushed by rocks. At the end of the mine, another cutscene shows him tripping over a rock (this is unpreventable). He then wakes up in Doctor Spong's office where Talon stops to recharge. When he exits the house, the game begins.
By the end of this game, Haven is chained to a rock, the king is killed, Vetch escapes, and it's revealed that Chess is a traitor. If the player has collected all of the runestones, completed all the runes challenges and has all 8 (2 on Auria, 2 on Ferra, 2 on Fereven, one on Exarco, and 1 on nequam) black diamonds, an alternate ending can be viewed.
The game was supposed to be a part of a trilogy, but due to incredibly poor sales, the story never continued or was ever finished.
Many of the missions require you to collect Cogs to operate machinery which will take you to another level or another part of the level.
There are five planets. Each is habitable with earth conditions and same sizes. Haven is from Ferra. You can see every other planet from the surface of planet, rising and setting like the sun at the same rate. In space you can see the differences from dark side and day side making phases like the moon but when in atmospheres you can see both sides (though you can still see difference). The only creatures seen were on Ferra and Exarco though all planets have life. All planets are 85% water or dried water bed.
Closer to sun than other planets but not by much. It has Earthly temperature and gasses with some red gassy haze or dust in the atmosphere. The planetis red in color with yellowish-white clouds as seen from space. On the surface the sky and ocean are pink. And clouds are red in sky (except for large continent-sized cirrus clouds. The continents are red, black, with some yellow coloring. Surface is completely covered with mountains, basins and cliff beaches. In the sky the planets make a line. Exarco(1°47' angular diameter) far left, Ferra & Nequam (2°angular diameter]]) center side by side, Auria (2°angular diameter]]) not too far to right. Day and night=15 min. Planets rise and set 6 minutes after sun in full or thin gibbous phases. When sun sets planets sets 15° to left from where the sun rose. Life on this planet wasn't observed long enough to make many conclusions except the fact that there is life, it is intelligent and there is flora underground.
Fareven is 35° tilted.
Fauna:Unknown?(White clay huts and 3 large artificial islands km. across were found {though the islands don't seem to be created by natives})
Flora:Multi-colored Mushroom and exotic plants able to survive underground near lava
Looks just like Earth from space and has the same gasses, ocean, geography, topography clouds, temp., & similar plant life. It may look like Earth but has one giant continent and many Archipelagos. Not much can be said about this planet because the only level on Auria was the Golden Bell levels. The only thing that could be observed it that humans used to live there and is unknown if there are still around(they may be introduced from Ferra or earth.Flora is just like earth and it was hinted that there may be giant bug/dragon creatures due to the statues at the golden bell. Day and night=16 min. In sky all planets are in gibbous phases (exception of Fareven which rises 15° below the sun). Planets rise 4 min after sun in order from left to right. Exarco (0°50~"),Nequam (3°41'~"), and Ferra (3°37'~").At times Nequam eclipses Exarco
Auria is tilted 11 degrees.
Fauna:unknown?(Humans{may have been introduced from Ferra or earth and is unknown if they are still around}There are statues of an insect/dragon creature)May share Ferra's life-forms.
Flora: Earth-like. Also shares the same flora as Ferra or Earth
Also looks a lot like Earth and Auria with the same look from space, gasses, ocean, geography, topography, clouds, temp, & plant life. It is a little bigger than Earth and Auria , not very noticeable unless you look closely. Unlike Earth or Auria it has many medium and small continents with a variety of islands. Many landmasses are scattered around the planet making it an islandish planet. The only snow is on the north pole which is made of four main islands. Haven and most characters are from Ferra. The largest continent, Haven's continent, is briefly explored in the menu page like a video, when it repeats the planets at a different phase. That continent and surrounding islands make the first half of the levels on the game. The inhabitants are a variety of humans, humanoid reptiles and things (guards of Vetch that are either native or introduced), and bizarre animals like squid with large jaws, human sized insects & arachnids, carnivorous fish, electric fish, and weird exotic plants. Day and night=12 minutes. Unique position of planets in sky. 90 degrees in front of the sun is a half phased Auria(4°) which rises at midnight being considered the early mourning "moon". Then Nequam(12°), minutes later, rises at dawn being new moon phase though the entire planet is visible seeing every surface feature. The sun follows only 0°30' angular diameters after Nequam. Fareven(2°30') rises 15° left of sun. Exarco(3°), about the same size of Auria, rises a little before noon, it rises 80° after sun. It is also 2° off to right when it rises from where the sun, Nequam, and Auria rose. You can't really see a phase because the planet is gray making it hard to see the terminator. At night Exarco is considered like the evening "moon" and when it sets, Auria, minuites later, rises and starts all over again.
Ferra is 22 degrees tilted and have powerful tides from Nequam.
Fauna: Humans,Ogre-like creaturs, Vetch's guards (Reptile-like humanoids and things{They may not be native})and a variety of Monstrous squids, human-sized bugs, man eating fish colonies(circum-global), electric fish, dragons, etc.
Flora:Earth-like and Auria-like (they may be introduced from those planets)
Slightly smaller than the other planets. Looks a bit like a light blue version of Uranusfrom space. Like Neptune it has high altitude streaks of white clouds that wrap around the planet like jetstreams(it could be that they are the jet streams). Also like Neptune, when you see the circumference of the plant through the atmosphere its a different color, Neptune is pinkish in that area but Nequam is greenish. Though it has similarities to the ice giants the atmosphere is hazy like Titan(though it could be dust or an extremely thick pure-oxygen atmosphere), and is a rocky planet. Continents are barely visible under the blue haze in the atmosphere. It is very cold and always snows year-round anywhere on the globe covering it in permanent frost. From the surface the clouds and sky are dark blue while the ground is light blue (even though it is not really blue it is just the filtering of light, the rock is actually brown and the ice white). The ocean is either, dried up leaving a dune-covered desert, evaporated into the hazed atmosphere probably making the haze covering the planet, or the ocean is still there just covered in sand-like frost or snow resembling a desert (except the sand is frost or snow). Unlike Titan the continents are visible through the clouds at a close distance. The once ocean is now a desert with large dunes. The ocean is replaced by a dune-full, vegetationless, shifting desert making it a bad place to live though it covers the majority of the planet. The Continents are tall mountainous lands with different topography than dune ocean and are streaked shaped sideways, look more like mountain ranges above ocean of flat desert even though they tend to be large enough to be considered "continents". It spins extremely rapidly covering a rotation in less than 6 minutes. It's very hard to tell order of planets and phases but planet sizes in sky easier. Auria(5°), Ferra(13°) huge in the night sky considered the moon(full phase). Exarco(3°). Fareven(3°0 rises 15 degrees left of sun when rise.. No vegetation but there is little thin oblong/cone shaped houses on the "landmasses."
Nequam is tilted 9 degrees.
Fauna: Probably extinct (there are clay huts that may be inhabited or remains of a past civilization)
Flora:Probably extinct too
Looks gray with some white clouds from space and hard to see the terminator in atmosphere of the planets. Exarco is a desert planet. And with the same topography of Nequam. Just like Nequam, the ocean is dried duneless desert with nothing living on it and continents that look like mountains or mountain ranges. Unlike Nequam there is no haze and it doesn't snow anywhere (only on the highest mountain in the big continent). The majority of landmasses are of similar length and width, there are basins and canyons on the landmasses, there is vegetation (which is weird because there is no visible surface other than a large reservoirs and several smaller ones), and the planet is gray with purple lines or spots. The inhabitants are turtle/Monster_from_the_Lagoon-like humanoids with Californian surfer slang, attitude, and accent often saying "dude" "narly" "rad" or "awesome". They hatch and raise emus (blueish, grayish ostrich sized birds that make chicken noises) and fear xenos (human sized spiders & beetles with mammal brains, reptile jaws, and shark teeth) that steal emus in the night and cause harm and damage to surface dwellers. There are large caves underground with xenos and other beasts (tentacles in the slime, green mud that is lethal, eyeballs in the wall with tentacles, and flora on the walls that shoot slow moving balls that subtract life and cause confusion like a green screen and the character doing the opposite of demand like going the wrong way or using attack when using shield and jump with the r2 button). There is also a/multiple queen{s} (depending on colony size) that is silver and heavily armored with a large unarmored abdomen that attacks by herself and shoots confusion balls. Day and night=14 minutes. The position of planets in the sky is nearly the same as on Auria with some minor differences. Like it is the opposite order and is 90° before the sun not after, appearing in the night before dawn. Ferra(3°37') is the same size and rises first followed closely by Nequam(3°17') and Auria(0°48'). Instead of Nequam being slightly bigger than Ferra its Nequam that's slightly smaller and instead of Exarco barely covered by Nequam it's Auria barely covered by Nequam. It is the same size as Auria so the size of Auria in the sky is the same but because Nequam is smaller in that sky Auria looks bigger compared to Nequam. On every planet Fareven(1°47') is about the same size but on Exarco its slightly smaller and also Fareven rises 15°. Also when in all the other planets atmospheres there is a exotic music and ships as enemies but on Exarco the enemies are xenos and there is an alien/bug music.
Exarco tilted 15degrees.
Fauna:Turtle/Monster from the Laggon creatures with Xenos(human sized arachnid/beetles with mammal brains, reptile jaws, and shark teeth)And blue gray ostrich-like body called an emuthat acts and is used as domesticated farm animal as chickens on Earth (though they make the same noises and are used the same way)
Flora:Only know is palm trees though they are good at saving water
