HDR PhotoStudio is an advanced HDR (High Dynamic Range) digital imaging software application developed by Unified Color for Microsoft Windows XP/Vista. In addition to being a powerful HDR-merge application, HDR PhotoStudio offers an advanced set of image editing operations that work in full dynamic range (the website shows an example of processing an image with 1,000,000:1 contrast ratio), full human color range (full gamut), and in high precision (32-bit floating point). It also has a Color Integrity feature that allows users keeping an image's color tone during all of HDR PhotoStudio image editing operations — for example changing the contrast of an image will not change image's chromatic (color tone) data. This problem is usually referred to as "color shift", and HDR PhotoStudio basically solves it.[1]

HDR PhotoStudio implements an advanced HDR image compression format called BEF, and a plug-in for opening and saving files in Adobe Photoshop is also included with the application. The BEF format provides an image storage solution that can archive image data with any dynamic range, full human color range, and a quality setting directly tied to color data precision (the used techniques ties it with JND — just noticeable difference parameter). The BEF compression ratios are claimed to be comparable with those achieved by JPEG compression.

Image editing operations

Operation Description
Rotate CCW Rotates image counter-clock-wise
Rotate CW Rotates image clock-wise
Free rotate Free angle rotation by specifying a line by which to align the image (either horizontally or vertically)
Crop Cropping (free select, fixed size, aspect)
Resize Downsize or upsize the image
Brightness/Contrast Adjust image's brightness or contrast
Whiteness Adjust whiteness (whitish haze created by lens flare), set black point in the image
Local contrast Adjust local contrast (also known as micro-contrast or details contrast) with halo reduction option
Shadow/Highlight shadow/highlight] adjustment, midtone point selection (specified in EV), halo reduction option
Sharpness Make image sharper or blurrer
White balance Very powerful white balance control, can specify a non-white tone and adjust its color via gamut control
Color tuning Very powerful color correction instrument, specify up to 3 points of "source" and "target" colors, the image is changed so that source color tones become target's while all other color tones in the image are kept intact
Saturation with color tone equalizer Adjust hue and saturation. Color tone equalizer lets you adjusting each color tone (red, yellow, green, cyan, blue, magenta) independently of each other
Tint Toning effect
