A Head of the River race is a rowing race, held as a procession race against the clock, with the winning crew receiving the title of "Head of the River". The term "Head of the River" has also been used for winning crews in regattas since the 19th century, such as the college bumps racing in Oxford or Cambridge.
Head of the River races include:
- Head of the River Race, a competition for eights held on the River Thames in London in March of each year
- Head of the Charles Regatta, in Boston, Massachusetts
- Head of the River (Australia), a rowing regatta held between schools in a number of Australian cities
- Head of the River Amstel, The major race in the Dutch long distance rowing season, held on the river Amstel in the 2nd half of March
