Biography

Alabama's Heartland were formed by singer Jason Albert, guitarist Craig Anderson, and drummer Todd Anderson, with lead guitarist Mike Myerson, bassist Keith West, and fiddler Chuck Crawford coming on board a little later to make the group a six-piece. Citing influences as diverse as Johnny Cash, AC/DC, Alabama, Sam Cooke, Van Halen, Elvis Presley, Otis Redding, and the Beach Boys, the band developed a strong regional following in the Huntsville, AL, region with their strong live shows. Catching the eye of Lofton Creek Records, Heartland signed a recording contract with the Nashville indie and was soon recording at Muscle Shoals' Fame Studios with producer Walt Aldridge, issuing a single, "I Loved Her First," in 2006. The song, written by Aldridge with Elliott Park, is a poignant ballad of a father's love for his daughter and seems destined to become a standard at country weddings and receptions until the end of time. An album, also called I Loved Her First, followed later in 2006. In early 2009, Mike Myerson decided to leave the group and they continued on as a five-piece. ~ Steve Leggett, All Music Guide

Heartland is an American country music band from Huntsville, Alabama. It is composed of Jason Albert (lead vocals), Craig Anderson (rhythm guitar), Todd Anderson (drums), Chuck Crawford (fiddle, background vocals), Mike Myerson (lead guitar), and Keith West (bass guitar, background vocals). Signed to Lofton Creek Records in 2006, the band topped the country charts that year with its debut single "I Loved Her First", also the title track to its debut album. After two followup singles both missed top 40, the band exited the label, releasing two more unsuccessful singles on the Country Thunder label.

History

Heartland signed with an independent record label called Lofton Creek Records in 2002. The group's debut single, "I Loved Her First", was released later that year, and went on to top the Billboard Hot Country Songs charts.[1] Its debut album of the same name was released in October 2006.

After its second and third singles performed poorly, the band exited Lofton Creek and signed to Country Thunder Records.[2] Their first single for that label, "Once a Woman Gets a Hold of Your Heart", charted at number 52 in 2007. The label folded in March 2009. [3] In July, the band moved to Permian Records and released the single "Mustache."
