Hearts and the Highway

  • Release Year: 1915

Plot

This period drama (with comic touches) was based on the novel by Cyrus Townsend Brady. The Earl of Clanranald (Charles Kent) is arrested for conspiring to murder England's King James II (Donald Hall). In spite of the pleas of the Earl's daughter, Lady Katherine (Lillian Walker), Scotland's Chief Justice (Anders Randolph) condemns him to death. The only way to save the Earl is for Katherine to waylay the messenger who is carrying the death warrant to the king. To track down Sir Harry Richmond (Darwin Karr), Katherine disguises herself as a man, Sir Henry Carthew. This supplies some awkward moments when Lady Katherine and Sir Harry are asked to share a room, and Sir Harry wants his new pal to quaff a few ales. Eventually the truth comes out when he finds his papers missing and the two get in a fight. Although Sir Harry arrests Lady Katherine, he winds up falling in love with her, and then aiding her in her mission. ~ Janiss Garza, All Movie Guide
