'Heidebilder'

‘Heidebilder’, a series of nineteen poems published by Annette von Droste-Hülshoff in Gedichte (1844). Though they refer to the heaths of her Westphalian homeland, they were written at Meersburg, Lake Constance, in 1841-2. They are remarkable as much for their grasp of the tone of the landscape as for their observation of detail. The group includes ‘Die Lerche’, ‘Die Jagd’, ‘Der Weiher’, ‘Die Mergelgrube’, ‘Das Hirtenfeuer’, ‘Der Heidemann’, ‘Das Haus in der Heide’, and ‘Der Knabe im Moor’.
