Helson, Hel (Britten: Paul Bunyan). Baritone. A logger, sent to America by the King of Sweden and appointed as Paul Bunyan's foreman. Tries to usurp Bunyan's position by inciting the men to rebel, but later makes his peace and the two of them help to found the America of the future. Created (1941) by Bliss Woodward.
