Biography

American stage actress Helen Freeman made one silent film in 1915 then returned to the theater until the dawn of the talkie era. One of Freeman's earliest talking-picture roles was also one of her best: she played Nancy Hanks in the prologue of D.W. Griffith's Abraham Lincoln (1930). Thereafter, she was seen in maternal roles, both rustic and regal. In 1946, Helen Freeman was given several good scenes as Widow Bridelle in So Dark the Night and as the Queen of Spain in Bob Hope's Monsieur Beaucaire. ~ Hal Erickson, All Movie Guide
