( b Stuttgart, 27 Nov 1935). German composer. He studied with David at the Stuttgart Musikhochschule (1955-8) and with Nono in Venice (1958-60). In 1966 he began teaching. In later works he simplified his forms and lessened the extent of aesthetic intervention in his material.
