Dictionary of Dance: Helsinki City Theatre Dance Company

Finnish modern dance company. Founded in 1973, its major artistic growth began in 1982 when Jorma Uotinen took over as director and choreographer. He created sixteen works, the most famous of which, Kalevala (1985), toured Europe extensively. Between 1991 and 1996 it had various directors until Kenneth Kvarnstrom took over, creating new works such as no-no (1996). He was succeeded by Nigel Charnock in 2003.
