Herbert Harold Read FRS, FRSE, FGS, (born Whitstable 17 December 1889, died 29 March 1970)[1][2] was a British geologist and Professor of Geology at Imperial College.[1] From 1947-1948 he was president of the Geological Society.[1]

He was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society in 1939[1] & won its Royal Medal in 1963 for "outstanding contributions to the understanding of the processes of rock metamorphism and the origins of granite".[1][3] He also was awarded the Bigsby Medal, the Wollaston Medal and the Penrose Medal.[1]
