Herrnhuter

Herrnhuter or Herrnhuter Gemeine, known in Britain and the USA as the Moravian Church, an association of pietistic Christians, the origin of which was a community of religious refugees settled by Count Nikolaus Ludwig von Zinzendorf on his estate at Herrnhut in Saxony in 1722. The movement attracted great attention in the 18th c., and no less a figure than Lessing was moved to write as its apologist in the fragment Gedanken über die Herrnhuter (written 1750, published 1784).
