Santlow, Hestor (b c.1690, d 15, 21, or 31 Jan. 1773). British dancer and actress. She gave her debut performance as a dancer in London's Drury Lane Theatre in 1706 and as an actress in Congreve's Love for Love in the same theatre in 1709 and went on to become the leading interpreter of Weaver's seminal dramatic ballets. She created the roles of Venus in Loves of Mars and Venus (1717) and Helen in The Judgement of Paris (1733), enthralling the public with the eloquent realism of her performances. She also appeared in the ballets and masques of John Thurmond. Her dancing was praised by James Thomson for its ‘melting lascivious motions, airs and postures’.
