Review

The 1977 solo piano venture takes a well-used, and quite practical approach of combining live and studio performances. From the former event comes "Rapunzel. . .Rapunzel", one of the performances from this pianist that approaches masterpiece status. It's a good thing she is so adept at the keyboard that she can evoke fairy tales, since in all her photographs her hair is cut much too short for anyone to use to scale a tower and rescue the princess locked within. Shorter pieces characterize the studio side of this album, and for the most part her later set of solo volumes for her own Intakt label reach a higher level. The younger lass has a rowdy sense of humour, however, not only present in titles such as "Dykes on Bykes" but in some of the chances she takes as an improviser. ~ Eugene Chadbourne, All Music Guide
