Biography

Japanese scriptwriter Oguni Hideo worked in close association with filmmaker Akira Kurosawa from the early '50s through the mid-'80s. He first collaborated with Kurosawa and fellow screenwriter Hashimoto Shinobu on Ikuru (Doomed) (1952). The trio last collaborated on Ran (1985), an adaptation of King Lear that won international critical acclaim, but did poorly in Japan and resulted in Kurosawa's taking a several year-long hiatus from filmmaking. ~ Sandra Brennan, All Movie Guide
