Company Bio
In March 2005, the U.S.-based game development division of Sammy Corp., Sammy Studios, was purchased from its Tokyo-based parent corporation, becoming the independent High Moon Studios. The buyout was made by a private investment group led by John Rowe, who was Sammy Studios president and CEO at the time of the transition, and has similar roles in the new company. According to Rowe, the move to independence was motivated by "strong desire to control the creative and technical destiny of our studio."
High Moon Studios retained its staff and management team through the transition, as well as the rights to intellectual properties that were being developed by Sammy Studios, including the Western horror shooter Darkwatch.
In January of 2005, less than six months after the successful release of Darkwatch, publisher Vivendi Universal Games announced that it had purchased High Moon Studios (and all it intellectual properties).
In its announcement of the acquisition, VU Games expressed a desire to retain the High Moon Studios branding and individual identity, as well as its staff of over 100 employees.
