Hinterrhein is an administrative district in the canton of Graubünden, Switzerland. It has an area of 617.67 km² and a population of 12,415 (as of December 2007[update]).[1]
Hinterrhein consists of five Kreise (sub-districts) and thirty-two municipalities. This number may decrease as the municipalities of Cazis, Portein, Präz, Sarn, and Tartar are seeking approval from the Canton to merge on 1 January 2010 into a new municipality that will be known as Cazis.[2]
