Review
Each volume in Capitol's Hip Hop High series provides an accurate, unbiased snapshot of the rap world for the period being covered. However, each disc only contains a slim number of ten tracks (filling out roughly half the space a CD allows), and the range of styles presented on each volume unapologetically shoots from one end of the spectrum to the other -- whether it's gangsta rap from the West Coast, jazz-rap from the East Coast, pop-rap from one-hit wonders, or any point in between, these discs will only appeal to a select type of person who needs these songs and can appreciate every single flavor of rap music. The first volume covers 1990-1991 and features DJ Jazzy Jeff & the Fresh Prince's "Summertime," N.W.A.'s "100 Miles and Runnin'," Digital Underground's "The Humpty Dance," and MC Hammer's "U Can't Touch This." ~ Andy Kellman, All Music GuideTracks
