Review
Each volume in Capitol's Hip Hop High series provides an accurate, unbiased snapshot of the rap world for the period being covered. However, each disc only contains a slim number of ten tracks (filling out roughly half the space a CD allows), and the range of styles presented on each volume unapologetically shoots from one end of the spectrum to the other -- whether it's gangsta rap from the West Coast, jazz-rap from the East Coast, pop-rap from one-hit wonders, or any point in between, these discs will only appeal to a select type of person who needs these songs and can appreciate every single flavor of rap music. The second volume covers 1992-1993 and features Dr. Dre and Snoop Dogg's "Deep Cover," Ice Cube's "Check Yo Self," Kris Kross' "Jump," and Digable Planets' "Rebirth of Slick (Cool Like Dat)." ~ Andy Kellman, All Music GuideTracks
