Hippolyte (Rameau: Hippolyte et Aricie). Tenor. Son of Thésée and stepson of Phèdre. Loved by his stepmother, but in love with Aricie. Exiled by his father, who wrongly thinks he is about to kill Phèdre. The misunderstandings are all unravelled and he and Aricie are united. Created (1733) by Denis-François Tribou.
