French Literature Companion:

Hippolyte-Jules Pilet de La Ménardière

La Ménardière, Hippolyte-Jules Pilet de or Hippolyte-Jules Pilet de La Mesnardière (1610-63). A doctor and a rather laboured salon poet (Les Poésies, 1656), who is now remembered, if at all, for his Poétique (1639, only Volume 1 was published); this attempt to set out Aristotelian rules for tragedy contains some interesting remarks on language.
