Plot

This documentary is part of a series that examines the demographic, economic, and political influences that make up the unique region of America known as Appalachia. The mountainous area is famous for its unique traditions, which have often been characterized in the popular vernacular as that of "hillbillies." This episode presents the story of one such family, who migrate to urban, mainstream America in search of a better life. What they learn in the city is that, at least for them, life was better back in the hills of Appalachia. Film clips, photographs, and interviews with family members tell the story of the long journey home. ~ Rose of Sharon Winter, All Movie Guide
