Boundaries

The seat was created in 1983 as a successor to Holborn and St. Pancras South which had been in existence since 1950.

Boundary review

Following their review of parliamentary representation in North London the Boundary Commission for England has recommended the creation of a modified Holborn constituency, made from the following electoral wards in the London Borough of Camden:

Compared to the previous boundaries, this sees the addition of Gospel Oak and Highgate from the Hampstead and Highgate constituency. This was expected to make the deprivation levels soar with the addition of Gospel Oak but they stayed similar as Highgate, a very fashionable area was also added. (Gospel Oak had previously been part of the constituency, but had been moved to Hampstead and Highgate at the last review.) The electorate of the new seat would have been 85,188 if it had existed at the 2005 General Election the figure has since risen further and at the next election it is likely to have one of the highest electorates in London.

Members of Parliament

The seat has been held since 1983 by Frank Dobson for Labour, who had been elected in 1979 to the predecessor seat of Holborn & St. Pancras South. Dobson is now the longest serving Labour MP in London.
