Review: Overall

If you are looking for a really challenging adventure game and don't mind having no graphics or sound in the game, you need look no further than Hollywood Hijinx by Infocom.

Your Aunt left her whole fortune to you, provided you can find ten "treasures" left in your Uncle Buddy's house. If you can't find them, one of your other cousins will get the chance. The game includes a special "Remember Buddy" issue of a magazine filled with clues that have a bearing on the sorts of treasures you'll be looking for. Each of the ten treasures was featured in one of Uncle Buddy's movies.

The house, really a mansion, has several hidden areas that you must find out how to access and is full of practical jokes and traps, like stairs that turn into slides.

The best advice is to take everything and examine everything. Don't assume anything in this game. Save frequently under separate file names. Several missteps could make the difference between winning and losing the game.

However, the game includes extensive hints and a section listing what all the treasures are and where everything is hidden. The hints are given in graduated doses, from broad to specific, so you can get the help you need without having it spelled out for you if that's not what you want.

This game is excellent and very challenging. Not only do you have to find all the treasures, but you must do it under a time limit. In addition, this game has specific commands that are listed in the front of the manual. If you're stuck, you might try using one of them.

If you're willing to try a game without sound or graphics, this might just be the game for you. Can you find all ten treasures, or will you fail?
