Biography

Home Town Hero's Aaron Bruno (vocals/guitar) and Drew Stewart (guitar) were teenage pals while attending SoCal's Westlake High School in the mid-'90s. They were also big fans of those who made that town a music scene years before -- Rancid, Operation Ivy, No Doubt -- and relished in '90s grunge heyday of Nirvana, Pearl Jam, and Green Day. Bruno and Stewart opted to form a band out of their love and passion for music. What started out at the Ice Monkeys would later be tagged Insurgence with the additions of Todd Burnes (bass) and Ray Blanco (drums). At first, they were a hardcore foursome, however playing shows at the famous Whisky-A-Go-Go and the Roxy allowed the band to shape up personally and professionally; while recording a homemade EP, Insurgence christened themselves Home Town Hero. Various dates on the 2000 and 2001 Vans' Warped Tour allowed for national exposure for Home Town Hero as well as a major-label deal. Madonna's Maverick captured the band in 2001 and prepped them to work alongside the likes of fellow post-grunge hipsters such as Hoobastank and Onesidezero. A self-titled debut album was issued in May 2002, and single "Questions" was a smash hit among major-market radio stations. ~ MacKenzie Wilson, All Music Guide

Home Town Hero was a post-grunge band from Southern California active in the early 2000s. Founding members Aaron Bruno and Drew Stewart began playing together while attending Westlake High School, where their early project was known as the Ice Monkeys. They were greatly influenced by the success of Southern California punk bands of the early 1990s and the Grunge aesthetic popularized by band like Nirvana and Pearl Jam. With the latter addition of bassist Todd Burns and drummer Ray Blanco the band re-christened themselves as Insurgence. As Insurgence they began playing famous California venues, including The Roxy Theatre and Whisky a Go Go.

When the band began work on their demo EP they again changed their name to "Home Town Hero". In 2000 and 2001 Home Town Hero Was joined the Van's Warped Tour, where they attracted the attention of Madonna's Maverick Records label. The band's eponymous major label debut was heavily promoted by Warner Bros. Records, and their single "Questions" received significant airplay in major American radio markets. "Questions" was also included in videogame soundtrack for Legends of Wrestling II.

Home Town Hero split up shortly before releasing their second LP, Bitch City, in 2004. The album did not see a physical release, but was freely available to download on the internet. The track "Robbers" was selected by EA Sports for the soundtrack to their MVP Baseball 2004 video game.[1]

Vocalist Aaron Bruno and guitarist Drew Stewart went on to found Under the Influence of Giants under the Island Records label in 2005.
