Homeland Stores has a home with Associated Wholesale Grocers. The regional supermarket chain emerged from Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in 2002 as a wholly-owned subsidiary of Kansas City-based cooperative AWG. (AWG operates the Homeland stores through its Associated Retail Grocers subsidiary.) AWG supplies more than 70% of the products sold in Homeland stores. Its 70 supermarkets -- mostly in Oklahoma, but also in Kansas and Missouri -- offer groceries and general merchandise; most have delicatessens, pharmacies, and some have specialty departments (ethnic foods, floral services, seafood). Homeland still faces the same stiff competition from Wal-Mart and others that it did prior to filing for bankruptcy.
Key numbers for fiscal year ending December, 2007:
Sales: $96.3M
Officers:
President and CEO: Darryl Fitzgerald
EVP, Marketing and Merchandising: Ron Hall
