Homo noeticus
Homo noeticus is a term loosely translated as "Spirit-Soul Man" and refers to a posited 'next stage in human evolution' by some New Agers. Mystics such as P. D. Ouspensky, Jan van Rijckenborgh and Rudolf Steiner have predicted this or something similar as a new stage in human development.
Homo noeticus is believed to possess abilities which are now seen as paranormal, such as telepathy, telekinesis and a heightened spiritual awareness. The purported existence of indigo children is cited as evidence of this phenomena.[citation needed]
In 1973 NASA Astronaut Edgar Mitchell set up the Institute of Noetic Sciences in the United States to study the development of Noetic skills in humans.
