Hong Kong Highpower Technology, Inc. was incorporated in the state of Delaware on January 3, 2006. In June 2008, it completed its public offering. The Company is a developer, manufacturer and marketer of nickel-metal hydride (Ni-MH) and lithium-ion (Li-ion) rechargeable batteries and related products. The Company's Ni-MH rechargeable batteries are versatile solutions for many diverse applications due to their long life, environmentally friendly materials, high power and energy, low cost and safe applications. Developed to meet the requirement for increasingly higher levels of energy demanded by today's electronic products, its Ni-MH rechargeable batteries could offer up to increased capacity and higher energy density over similarly sized standard Ni-Cad rechargeable batteries. As a result, users could expect a longer time between charges and longer running time. The Company's Ni-MH rechargeable batteries are available in both cylindrical and prismatic shapes. It produces an extensive line of batteries, falling into two main categories: Consumer Batteries - Relative to ordinary Ni-Cad rechargeable batteries, as well as their non-rechargeable counterparts, its Ni-MH and Li-ion batteries offer higher power capacity allowing for longer working time and shortened charging time during equivalent working periods. It produces A, AA and AAA sized batteries in blister packing as well as chargers and battery packs and Industrial Batteries – These batteries are designed for electric bikes, power tools and electric toys. They are specifically designed for high-drain discharge applications, possessing low internal resistance, more power, and longer discharging time. The Company sells its products to original equipment manufacturers and a well-established network of distributors and resellers. Currently, it purchases its raw materials, consisting mainly of metal materials including nickel oxide, nickel foam, metal hydride alloy and other battery components, such as membranes, from suppliers located in China and Japan. The Company's main competitors in the Ni-MH battery market or other similar competing rechargeable battery products include SANYO Electric Co., Ltd. Global, Matsushita Industrial Co., Ltd. (Panasonic), BYD Company Ltd., GPI International, Ltd., and GS Yuasa Corporation. The major environmental regulations applicable to it include the PRC Environmental Protection Law, the PRC Law on the Prevention and Control of Water Pollution and its Implementation Rules, the PRC Law on the Prevention and Control of Air Pollution and its Implementation Rules, the PRC Law on the Prevention and Control of Solid Waste Pollution, and the PRC Law on the Prevention and Control of Noise Pollution.
