Hope Aldrich Rockefeller Spencer (born May 17, 1938) is the daughter of John D. Rockefeller, III, and Blanchette Hooker Rockefeller. Her older brother is Jay Rockefeller, the prominent Democratic U.S. senator from West Virginia. She is a great-granddaughter of John D. Rockefeller I, the Standard Oil founder.
Aldrich pursued a career in journalism and has worked for Long Island's Newsday, Beijing's China Daily, New York's The Village Voice, and the Washington Monthly. She worked for the Santa Fe Reporter in the 1980s before she bought the newspaper and became its publisher.
She continues to reside in New Mexico and as of 1996, Aldrich was New Mexico's third wealthiest resident. Her net worth was approximately $250 million at that time. Her wealth is considerably larger, now in 2009.
Married in 1959 to John Spencer (February 3, 1930–) (a descendant from a second cousin of Mary Anna Randolph Custis and through him from Charles II, King of England and King of Scotland), they were the parents of:
- David Hooker Spencer (December 1, 1961–)
- Benjamin Murray Spencer (December 11, 1964–) - deceased
- Theodore Spencer (August 3, 1966–)
