Hoskins

English family of miniaturists. It is difficult to distinguish between the work of (1) John Hoskins (i) and his son (2) John Hoskins (ii) in the body of miniatures signed with the monogram IH. The elder Hoskins was the uncle and guardian of Samuel Cooper and Alexander Cooper; Samuel's influence can be discerned in works from the Hoskins studio produced during the 1630s and thereafter.
