Newspapers and Magazines
Houston's major daily, the Houston Chronicle, is joined by four smaller-circulation dailies and by the weeklies Houston Business Journal and Houston Press, an alternative paper. Campus newspapers include the Houston Cougar (University of Houston), the Thresher (Rice University), and the UHCLidian (University of Houston-Clear Lake).
Television and Radio
Eight television stations broadcasting from Houston include five network affiliates, a public broadcasting affiliate that was the nation's first public broadcasting television station, and two independents. Cable television programming is also available in the Houston area. The city's 18 AM and FM radio stations broadcast programming ranging from news, Spanish-language, and Christian talk shows to top-forty, polka, rhythm and blues, jazz, and country music, university, and public radio.
