Biography

Howdy Quicksell (whose name sounded like he should have been a traveling salesman) was a fine rhythmic banjoist who appeared on many classic recordings during his brief career. Quicksell was a member of Jean Goldkette's Orchestra from 1922-27, including the period that Bix Beiderbecke was in the band. In addition, Quicksell recorded with Beiderbecke (1925) and with Frankie Trumbauer's recording group (1927), contributing "Sorry" to the Dixieland repertoire. After the Goldkette Orchestra broke up, Quicksell freelanced for a few years before dropping out of music altogether by the early 1930s, working in a Michigan distillery. ~ Scott Yanow, All Music Guide
