Ähtäri (Swedish: Etseri) is a town and municipality of Finland.
It is located in the province of Western Finland and is part of the Southern Ostrobothnia region. The town has a population of 6,602 (30 June 2009)[2] and covers an area of 909.96 square kilometres (351.34 sq mi) of which 105.06 km2 (40.56 sq mi) is water.[1] The population density is 8.2 inhabitants per square kilometre (21 /sq mi).
The municipality is unilingual Finnish.
Ähtäri is known for its zoo. There are also a relatively old and small board mill called Vääräkosken Pahvi in Ähtäri.
