A hormone that is isolated from human placentas, that has a biological activity that weakly mimics the activity of somatropin and prolactin, and that is secreted into maternal circulation. Also called chorionic growth hormone-prolactin, human chorionic somatomammotropic hormone, placental growth hormone.
