Biography
The illustrious Ron Hawkins, of Lowest of the Low and Rusty Nails fame, teamed up with former Dig Circus members Mark Hansen (drums and vocals), Dave Mackinnon (vocals and guitars), and Brian Poirier (guitars and vocals) along with Dan Kurtz (bass) to form Hummer in 1995. They recorded Electrically Operated Product in 1995, which was mastered in the spring of 1997, and finally released later that same year. The band recorded the album in the lo-fi fashion that fans of Dig Circus had become accustomed to. Two members of Hummer, Dave Mackinnon and Brian Poirier make up the Fembots and Mark Hansen is the drummer for Ron Hawkins and the Rusty Nails. The collaboration of these band members was years in the making; Ron Hawkins was always a big Dig Circus fan, and mentioned them in a Lowest of the Low song entitled "That Song About Trees and Kites" that appeared on the Low's second (And regrettably, last) album, Hallucigenia. Ron Hawkins has also collaborated with the Fembots, writing and performing the spoken word "No-one Fucks with Goon Ramerez" on their debut album, Mucho Cuidado. This super-group of independent Toronto musicians carries on the tradition of writing true music, that incorporates thought provoking lyrics, with grinding guitars and hard hitting choruses, which was started by the members' respective early work. ~ Linda Woods, All Music Guide
