| Photography Encyclopedia: Humphrey Lloyd Hime |
Hime, Humphrey Lloyd (1833-1903), Irish-born Canadian photographer. Although only an amateur when he went to Canada in 1854 to join an engineering firm, he served as official photographer to the Assiniboine and Saskatchewan Expedition to the western interior in 1858 and, despite the limitations of the wet-plate process, effectively captured the character of the territory in the 50 images he made. Hime left engineering for stockbroking in the 1860s, and apparently also gave up photography.
