Hus family

Family of dancers who were widely active in Europe through the 18th and 19th centuries. Auguste H. (b 1735, d after 1781) was a dancer with Paris Opera (1756-60), had ballets staged at the Théâtre de la Foire, and was choreographer at the Comédie-Française (1759-60). He may also be the Jean Baptiste H. who danced and choreographed in Lyons and Turin for various seasons between 1761 and 1781. His adopted son was Eugene H. (orig. Pierre-Louis Stapleton, b Brussels, 1758, d Brussels, 1823) who danced in Lyons, Paris, and Bordeaux and became founder director of the ballet company at Brussels' Théâtre de la Monnaie in 1815. Auguste's brother Pierre H., also known as Pietro, was director of the ballet school and choreographer at the Teatro San Carlo in Naples. Pierre's son Auguste (1820-50) danced widely in Italy and Vienna and directed the ballet school at La Scala.
