An island and a town. The town was founded by the Greeks in the 4th century as Dimos. They called the island Pharus. The Venetian name Lesina is derived from a Slavonic root word mean 'woody'. The island became part of the Kingdom of the Serbs, Croats, and Slovenes when it was created in 1918.
