Review

For Hypermodern Jazz 2000.5, Empire varied the beats but rarely invoked the extreme tempo changes which characterized other material. The result is an interesting fusion of techno and jazz, often touching on electro, downtempo breakbeat and acid. "God Told Me How to Kiss" and "Unknown Stepdancer" are two highlights. ~ John Bush, All Music Guide

Hypermodern Jazz 2000.5 (usually shortened to Hypermodern Jazz) is an album by German musician Alec Empire, released in 1996. It was his fourth full album, his fourth for the Mille Plateaux label, and the first of three he released in the same year (The Destroyer was released on DHR the following June and Les Étoiles des Filles Mortes, also for MP, in November). The album, as the title suggests, exhibits an experimental approach to jazz utilising electronics and synthesizers.
