ṛṣi

A ṛṣi is an Indian seer or hearer and revealer of divine knowledge such as that contained in the Vedas (see Vedas) and other sacred “revealed” Hindu (see Hinduism entries) texts (see Śruti). Veda means “knowledge” and the ṛṣis were, therefore, transmitters of divine knowledge revealed to them in visions.
