Biography

Self-proclaimed "boy band" I Was a Cub Scout are Nottingham, England's Todd Marriott (vocals, synthesizer, guitar) and William Bowerman (drums), who joined together while teenagers after playing in separate punk bands. The idea had its origin with Marriott, who started as a one-man act in mid-2005, with Bowerman joining in early 2006. The duo's blend of emo, indie rock, and electronics was satisfactory enough for XL Records imprint Abeano, which issued the singles Pink Squares (November 2006) and I Hate Nightclubs (March 2007). ~ Kenyon Hopkin, All Music Guide

Formation

I Was a Cub Scout was originally a one-man band, consisting of Todd Marriot who collaborated with various individuals, none of whom occupied a residency within the group until William Bowerman officially joined the band in mid 2006.

The band spent about six months playing house parties and night clubs across England, their exposure gaining them some popularity. They have also maximized their exposure by touring extensively, playing in the 2007 Carling and Download Festivals, as well as embarking on a tour with DARTZ!.[1]

Four singles have been released, each of which has had considerable airplay.[citation needed] IWACS released their debut album, I Want You to Know That There Is Always Hope—produced by Hugh Padgham—in February 2008. The duo consider it to be their best work yet.[2]

The band toured with Kill Hannah and ¡Forward Russia!, however they were forced to pull out of the Minus The Bear tour for undisclosed reasons.

The band toured in February, promoting the single "Pink Squares", and their debut album.

On 5 June 2008 it was confirmed by the band via a MySpace bulletin that they would be splitting. They honoured their tour commitments through June and July, their show on July 14 of 2008 being their last.

New Bands

Since the split, both former members have created new bands. Todd has created "Omes", a 5 piece rock band with similar elements to IWACS, but a rockier hard edged feel. More recently Todd has joined forces with Tom Mclean to form the band "YGT" which creates beautifully subtle and tempered electronica[3] using all analogue sounds with Music Production Center sequencing.[4]

Will has joined forces with friends to create "Brontide", a loop influenced band, some could say has great reflection on "Russian Circles". Will also session drums for La Roux.
