IAHSA stands for The International Association for Homes and Services for the Aging.
IAHSA was founded in 1994, and is an international, not-for-profit educational and charitable organization with multi-national composition, both in governance and membership. The mission of IAHSA is to connect and support care and service providers worldwide to enhance the quality of life for the ageing. IAHSA has a Special Consultative status by the United Nations Non-Governmental Section. This will enable IAHSA to make great strides in the goal to better the quality of life for the ageing.
Demographics clearly indicate that over the next 25 years, the number of elderly, many of whom may need ageing care and services, is rapidly becoming the dominant age group. Globally this trend is evident in a number of the ‘oldest’ countries, such as Japan and Italy. Provision of formal care for the older population is becoming increasingly important with the demise of the family unit and rapid increase in the number of individuals needing care.
Therefore, IAHSA has grown out of a belief that linking service professionals and corporations on a global scale will provide a platform for enhancing the dignity and care for older persons and persons with disabilities, regardless of where they live. IAHSA members are from over 30 countries and include leaders in long-term care, senior housing, business, and government as well as professionals interested in the international arena of ageing services.
