The Independent Association of Preparatory Schools - IAPS is a professional association for Headteachers of independent preparatory schools in the UK and worldwide. The association is based in Leamington Spa in Warwickshire, England. Currently the organisation has more than 600 member schools.
IAPS membership is a kitemark of quality for independent prep schools. Applicants are rigorously inspected to ensure they meet the required standards of membership. The Association covers a wide range of schools: single sex, co-ed, day, full and flexi-boarding, those with particular religious affiliations or with dedicated provision for children with special educational needs. All are committed to excellence in education.
Founded as professional organisation in 1892, IAPS became a business in 1923 and merged with the Association of Headmistresses of Preparatory Schools in 1981. In October 1991, IAPS relocated its headquarters in Kensington to Leamington Spa.
David Hanson is the Chief Executive of IAPS. John Tranmer is the current Chairman of IAPS for 2009/10 period, and Andy Falconer is the Chairman-Elect for 2010/11.
