Plot

A chance post-coital remark comes back to haunt a man seduced by a younger woman in this dark comedy. Seventeen-year-old Ramona (Eva Loebau) is a young woman living in Vienna who isn't terribly attractive and is severely lacking in both close friends and self-esteem. At a carnival, Ramona meets Toni (Dirk Waanders), a German man several years her senior, and she decides to seduce him. After they've had sex, in an effort to make conversation, Toni tells Ramona he'd be willing to marry her if she were of age -- a statement he lives to regret when she appears at his doorstep nine months later with a baby in tow. Ramona ends up moving in with Toni and his father (Manfred Kranich), who is visibly unhappy with his son, but Ramona chooses to ignore the strife around her and tries to make the best of things for her and her child. However, Ramona isn't quite so willing to turn a blind eye when Toni begins opening displaying his attraction to Lana (Sigrid Skoetz), a Russian expatriate who is trying to grow cabbage in Toni's garden. Ich Werde Dich Auf Haenden Tragen was written and directed by Iain Dilthey, who made the film as a thesis project while studying film; the results were impressive enough to be shown in competition at The 2001 Locarno Film Festival, where it was warmly received. ~ Mark Deming, All Movie Guide
